David Martini PD, President Elect, NSPE

Incoming NSPE President David Martini will discuss the state of NSPE and ongoing collaboration between NSPE and NABIE in the past as well as ongoing collaboration for the future. David is the current President Elect for the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and has been an active member of NSPE and the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers since 1994, serving as the President of the Minnesota Society in 2011-2012.


Mathew Klaus

Matthew Klaus- National Fire Protection Association

Matt Klaus is a Principal Fire Protection Engineer at the National Fire Protection Association, where he is responsible for NFPA documents addressing commissioning, integrated system testing and automatic sprinkler systems. Mr. Klaus has extensive international fire protection engineering consulting experience where he was a project manager for projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Kenya, and Great Britain, as well as projects across the United States. His experience includes designing and commissioning fire protection systems including smoke control systems, suppression systems and fire alarm systems.

Mr. Klaus holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Klaus is a member of the Salamander Honorary Fire Protection Engineering Society


Shaz Shahzer

Syed Shahzer- Bosch Theromotechnology

Syed Shazer is the lead Engineering Trainer for Bosch Theromotechnology. In his role, he is responsible to training engineers on new trends and technologies in the heating and cooling.


Chirstian Simonelli

Christian Simonelli-  Boston Groundwater Trust

Christian Simonelli was appointed as the Executive Director of the Boston Groundwater Trust in October 2014, having advanced from the position of Field Engineer. As a field engineer, Simonelli was responsible for reading every well in the Trust’s 800 plus well network. Additionally, he advocated for groundwater recharge in all areas of Boston with wood pile supported structures, and helped to acquire and organize countless documents to obtain a better understanding of groundwater issues in Boston.


Ed Fronapfel, PE- SBSA

Owner of SBSA, Inc. providing Architectural, Structural, Civil and Forensic Engineering, Litigation Support, Construction Management and Compliance Property Analysis, Repair and Rehabilitation, Insurance Claims Analysis.  Board Certified Building Inspection Engineer through the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers and a Fellow Member of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers. Ed is also a widely published author. He has published in: “The Journal of RCI,” “Building Integration Solutions,” “The Forensic Engineering Task Force,” “The Investigative Engineer,” “The I-ENG-A Report, “Information, Proceedings Volumes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,” “Colorado Claims Guide,” and “Building Integration Solutions.”


Steve Smith

Steve Smith- Leica Geosystems

Steve Smith is the Business Development Manager for the BLK360 at Leica Geosystems, a Swiss high-tech company with its regional headquarters in Norcross, GA. Steve is responsible for the sales and business for a transformational product—the BLK360. He is working with BLK360 customers to revolutionizing the construction industry—among others—by democratizing 3D point cloud technology. Steve is located in Georgia, and has worked for Leica since 2012, where he has held roles in divisional management, product management, and sits on the Senior Management Team that oversees company business in the USA and Canada. He has previously worked at Hilti, both in sales and product management positions. Steve holds an MBA degree from the Thunderbird School of Global business, and a BA in German Studies from Brigham Young University.


Lew Harriman

Lew Harriman- Mason Grant

Lew Harriman is the Director of Research & Consulting at Mason-Grant. Much of his work concerns humidity and moisture control in buildings and industrial processes which are affected by humidity and moisture, such as indoor mold, HVAC systems and the drying rates of materials and structures.


Melissa Roberts

Melissa Roberts, AAI-  USI Insurance

Melissa has been with USI Insurance (formerly Euclid Insurance) since 1984. She helps design firms avoid claims, manage their risks and purchase insurance. She is a past President of a/e ProNet – a national organization of Architects and Engineers insurance brokers, the American Institute of Architects Northeast Illinois Chapter awarded her their service Award for Outstanding Affiliate Member, and her articles, The Big Switch – Look Before You Leap When Changing Insurance Companies and Reporting Claims and Potential Claims Under Professional Liability Insurance were published by AIArchitect. Melissa currently serves on the ACEC IL Risk Management Committee and on the Board for the Northeast IL Chapter of the AIA. Melissa presents risk management seminars and workshops on behalf of clients, professional associations and educational institutions.
