Join NABIE

To be considered for membership, candidates are asked to submit the following:

  • Completed application form, located at the bottom of this page.
  • Copy of your registration cards from each state of registration.  You can attach the files on the online form.
  • Copy of your current NSPE membership card.  You can attach the file on the online form.
  • Corporate & Student Affiliate requirements vary please see the membership levels section below.

Registered Architects who are members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) may petition the Admissions Committee by providing evidence of experience and qualifications comparable to that required above. Admission requires recommendation by the Admissions Committee and approval by the Board.

NABIE Membership Levels

EXECUTIVE MEMBER

Applicants who hold membership in NSPE, who are registered Professional Engineers or are a registered Architect with membership in AIA, and have demonstrated skill in building inspection engineering may be admitted to The ACADEMY an Executive member. The applicants must submit 3 comprehensive inspection reports, building restoration designs, commercial or individual major building systems inspections, designs or restoration to the satisfaction of the Admissions Committee. Such Executive Members shall receive the Documents of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers, may attend conferences and are full voting members.

DIPLOMAT MEMBER

Applicants who are members in good standing as Executive members of the Academy for at least 15 years, have contributed to the furtherance of The ACADEMY, have presented at ACADEMY or NSPE conferences, or have published in any ACADEMY or NSPE forum and nominated by the Board of Directors, may be admitted as a Diplomat member. Such Diplomat Members shall receive the Documents of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers, may attend conferences and are full voting members.

CORPORATE AFFILIATE

Other persons such as lawyers, real estate professionals, appraisers, having an interest in building inspection engineering and those associated with building inspection or construction offering services or products to building inspection engineers may be admitted as Corporate Affiliates. Such Affiliates shall receive the Documents of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers and may attend conferences.

STUDENT AFFILIATE

Applicants, who are engineering undergraduate or graduate students, are active student members of the National Society of Professional Engineers and who also are student members of recognized technical societies may be admitted to the ACADEMY as Student Affiliate. Applicants who hold an EIT of FE certification may be admitted to the Academy as a Student Affiliate. Applicants, who hold membership in NSPE and are a registered Professional Engineer but whose experience does not yet qualify them for one of the categories of membership in The ACADEMY, may be admitted to The ACADEMY as a Student Affiliate. Such Student Affiliates shall receive the Documents of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers and may attend conferences. The fees for Student Affiliates shall be established by the Board. Student Affiliates are not members and may not represent themselves as holding membership in The ACADEMY.
