Harve D. Hnatiuk, P.E., F.NSPE from Westampton, New Jersey is president-elect of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and will assume the office of President in July 2014.
A member of NSPE since 1980, Mr. Hnatiuk has held many volunteer leadership positions with the Society including member of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and House of Delegates.  He has chaired the Dues and Billing Standardization Task Force, the Critical Infrastructure Task Force, and served as vice chair of the Legislative & Government Affairs Committee.  He has recently overseen the Society’s Race for Relevance initiative and is currently co-chairing the 2014 NSPE Annual Meeting Task Force.  In 2005 he was named an NSPE Fellow.
He is also a longtime member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), where he has served as president of both PSPE and its Valley Forge Chapter.  He has been a volunteer for both the local Future City and MATHCOUNTS competitions and since 2009 has been MATHCOUNTS Countdown Round Moderator and Program Emcee for the State competition.
Mr. Hnatiuk is vice president of Maida Engineering, Inc., a professional multi-discipline engineering firm founded in 1978.  The company serves electrical, industrial, commercial and HVAC clients throughout the US.
Licensed as a professional engineer in 12 states, Mr. Hnatiuk is a 1974 Cum Laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.  He received Penn’s “Alumni Award of Merit” in 2012.  He is a member of the IEEE, the Engineers Club of Philadelphia, the American Radio Relay League, and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.

Simpson Strong Tie – Bryan Wert, PE

Bryan Wert, PE  is an engineer for Simpson Strong-Tie working out of the McKinney, TX branch and covering the Southeast United States. He is SECB certified and holds a P.E. license in eight states throughout the country from CA to FL, requiring in depth knowledge of both high wind and seismic design. He provides engineering and application support for their sales force and customers including engineers, architects, building officials, contractors and inspectors; creates content for and delivers presentations and webinars; research and development on new products for the building industry; and represents Simpson Strong-Tie at various Professional Association and Technical Committee Meetings. Bryan graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.S. in Civil Engineering (Building Science emphasis) and from Stanford University with a M.S. in Structural Engineering.
LATERAL SYSTEMS PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS:
This presentation will discuss the use of different Simpson Strong-Tie lateral systems including the building code and contemporary design reasons for specifying and installing Simpson Strong-Tie® Strong-Frame® Moment Frames and Strong-Wall® Shearwalls to resist both wind and seismic forces.  The advantages of these systems compared to site-built shearwalls and local fab-shop built frames will be examined along with the available catalogs, details, and software that make specification, installation and inspection as easy as possible.  Additionally, Mr. Wert will share results of full scale testing of these systems completed in Simpson’s Tye Gilb Research Lab in Stockton, CA and how facility benefits the entire building community.

Whitten is the President of Jim Whitten Roof Consultants, LLC, established in 1999 as a sole proprietorship and incorporated as LLC in June 2007.  Mr. Whitten’s knowledge and experience in  roofing and waterproofing spans over 30 years, beginning in the mid 1970’s when he was a commercial roofing contractor in Central Texas, through his over 10 years of roofing and waterproofing consulting with the Austin Office of Law Engineering in the Facilities Engineering Group.

Inspection Process and Scope of Work for Home and Building Inspection in Puerto Rico – Dr. Juan F. Charles-Santana, P.E.

Juan Charles picDr. Charles-Santana has contributed greatly to the development and implementation of home inspection in Puerto Rico. He has published several articles and two books. In 2006, one of his books received the Engineering Book of the Year Award by the college of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico.

Schneider AIA has been involved with the accessibility codes for the State of Florida since 1985 where he served as a member of the Department of Community Affairs Special Task Force to rewrite the Florida Accessibility Code. This resulted in the 1990 edition of the Florida Accessibility Manual.  In 1992 he was appointed to the Florida Board of Building Codes and Standards and was elected its chair in 1993 and served as the chairmen of that board until 1996. He was the representing architect on the rewrite of the Florida Accessibility Code from 1993 – 1997 to harmonize it with the requirements of the ADAAG Guidelines to obtain DOJ’s certification and was the lead person in getting revisions to the Florida Statutes in the creation of the 2012 FACBC. He is a past AIA Florida State President, past AIA Region Director for the Florida – Caribbean Region, recipient of AIA Florida’s Gold Medal, AIA Palm Beach’s Gold Medal, Florida’s Governor’s Award for Extraordinary Title III Compliance Award, AIA National Component Excellence Award for An Outstanding Individual Contribution to Government Affairs for Spearheading Legislation to Establish a Unified Statewide Building Code for the State of Florida.  He currently is a representative on the ANSI A117.1 Committee that creates the national guidelines for accessibility compliance and use. He has been a speaker at past AIA Florida Conferences, at the AIA National Convention and at numerous Building Code Officials Conferences as well as to government municipalities and school boards on compliance with the Fair Housing Act, the ADA and the Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction. He is the co-editor of the Pocket Guide to the Florida Accessibility Standards. He currently provides general accessibility consulting services to clients in the public and private sector as it relates to Title II and III of the ADA as well as the Fair Housing Act.

From Customer Consensus, to Codes, to Congress Conservation and Reuse Of Water is Working! – Bill Hoffman, Jr., P.E.

Mr. Hoffman has over 45 years of water conservation and water resource planning experience.  He has been instrumental in the development of water conservation legislation and is the former Assistant Director for Water Resource Planning for the Texas Water Development Board.    He is a member of the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) Green Technology Committee. He is a former Trustee and Vice-Chair of the AWWA’s Water Conservation Division and has served on the water efficiency technological advisory committee for US Green Building Council’s LEED rating system.  He has authored numerous papers, articles, and co-authored several books on all aspects of water conservation.  This includes the new Best Management Practice Guide for commercial, institutional and industrial (CII) water efficiency for the State of California.
Mr. Hoffman has audited numerous commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities including university campuses, industries, hospitals, laboratories, hotels, government facilities, and related facilities.  Mr. Hoffman has worked in six countries on water conservation related projects.  He currently serves on several councils and commissions related to water sustainability. He has both a BS and MS degrees in Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a Registered Professional Engineer – Environmental Engineering, in Texas.

DudleyDr. McFarquhar has over 23 years experience. He is currently a principal of his own firm in Dallas, Texas. He has taught in the Civil Engineering Department of Texas Tech University (in Mechanics of Solids, Construction Materials(Lecture and Lab), Engineering Statistics) and has extensive experience in engineering consulting and design, forensic investigation, building repair/restoration of building facades and litigation support. Dr. McFarquhar has also researched window glass strength behavior and investigated tornado as well as hurricane damage on exterior wall systems
He has worked as a practitioner for the past 23 years and is highly skilled in the analysis and investigation of various building envelope cladding systems including curtain wall cladding components: aluminum stick, unitized, suspended and gasket wall, steel framing, window glazing, natural stone cladding, brick cladding, precast panels, monolithic and composite metal panels, sealants and cladding waterproofing. Dr. McFarquhar has worked directly for Building Owners, Developers, Architects, Property Managers, Insurance Adjusters, Legal Community and General Contractors.
Dr. McFarquhar is engineer-of-record for cladding on several commercial projects within the US and has performed engineering and consulting on several projects in the Far East, Europe, Central and South America Dr. McFarquhar is a published author and has presented several seminars in the United States, Europe, the Caribbean and Singapore on various building envelope topics.
Dr. McFarquhar is currently active on several committees for Texas Tech Civil Engineering Advisory Council (Chairman) and Texas Tech Civil Engineering Academy (past Chairman), ASTM [C18, E06], ACSE, AEI (Curtain Wall Committee Vice-Chair, Communications Committee Chair), Education Committee), GANA.
