Although I am sure I will meet many of you at the upcoming conference in February, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself (in writing!).  I am a Magna Cum Laude graduate of SUNY Stony Brook with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, and received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in my major.  Additionally my business studies afforded a focus on Sustainability.  Subsequently I received a post-graduate certificate from Cornell University, with a concentration in hospitality management.
My work experience has included a variety of administration and operation roles in the real estate sector, retail, and hospitality industry.  Management responsibilities in office operations and guest services/reservations at one of eastern Long Island’s more famous seasonal resort hotels provided great experience and offered an opportunity for me to work in an advisory capacity for needed improvements.  Currently, and in addition to my role with NABIE, I am the Operations Coordinator for the Shelter Island Historical Society, a not-for-profit that runs one of the museums on the eastern Long Island.
As an active ballroom and Latin dancer for more than seven years, I have both competed in, and taught, dancing.  With that experience came certification with high honors as a ballroom dance instructor by a prominent studio located in New York, NY.
With 2012 drawing to a close, I cannot help but reflect on what this year has meant to me.  I am proud to have been hired as your Executive Director, as well as extremely excited to begin working with you all to further enhance and develop NABIE’s image and prominence.  I hope you all will be pleasantly surprised about just how much a young woman with a business degree might actually know about what licensed professional engineers do in the field of examining buildings!
I have begun crafting ideas to improve the organization structure, including a new database system for tracking membership and eventual online credit card payment processing through our website for conference registration and membership.  A review of NABIE’s Facebook and LinkedIn presence through the eyes of a more regular user of social media is also underway.
I see the new year as a great start to a positive relationship with NABIE.  I’m looking forward to seeing you all in Nashville, TN!
